Last Day of the Helmet for Landon

Today was the day we have been waiting for, for 6 months now! I remember starting this count-down the very same day Landon got the helmet on and while it definitely got easier as time went by, I sure am happy to say that Landon no longer needs to wear his helmet! YAY! Praise the Lord!

To begin with, when measuring his head on the two diagonals, the difference in measurement was 16 millimeters. As of approximately 3.5 months ago, the difference was down to only 6 millimeters. Now that he is 16 months old and there hasn't been a change since, we decided along with the advice of the doctor that the helmet had done all it could and we would stop using it. The likelyhood of further change in measurements is very slim now as his head is getting harder and harder with the passing months. We are very thankful for the change that did occur as it's made a huge difference!

Here are a few photos we took today at his last appointment with the Orthotist.

Each appointment, the orthotist would measure his head circumference using this tape.

Scratching his head, he always does this when he gets a break from the helmet!

This was how he measured front to back, side to side and the two diagonals.

There is the form that was made from the original scan taken at Children's Hospital back in October. To see photos of this appointment, click here.

We got to take it home! I think I've got to start a box of things and keepsakes for Landon.

This one kind of shows the flat spot and bulge on the right side of his head (his right, your left!)

And now his helmet can stay on the form...though we should probably clean it and air it out first! Boy does it STINK! Bath time Landon! And it's probably going to take a few baths yet to fully rid the smell from Landon's head as well!

Oh and Matt has been talking about having a party where we all wear different kinds of helmets while Landon does not for a change... I'm not so sure about this idea, will keep you posted!

Thanks for all your prayers during this time in our lives. Praise the Lord that the helmet was an option to correct Landon's head.
